Dear John J.,
This Sunday, 8/24 is the last in the NYSA Lecture
Series and it's going to be way over your head. '3D Drones'.
We've recently installed a Glasses Free 3D Monitor at
the Holocenter on Governors Island and it's showing a 3D video of the cave rock
trio, 'Moon Hooch'. Send me some of your best 3D Video and I'll run it.
Don't have any? Make one with us!
Please join us after this Sundays Lecture for the DOOMSDAY AFTER Party (@ The Loft -
177 Prince Street 6:00PM till - ?) in
cooperation with the Museum of Interesting
Things . If you think that 'Duck and Cover' was a reality show,
than you need to come see what really put the 'boom' into 'baby boomers'. Hey,
the only thing to learn from history is we don't learn from
history.
The National Stereoscopic
Association Convention in Tennessee was
amazing and the folks who put it together can be proud of their effort. Besides
the great 3D art, movies and clever gadgets, what I was most taken with was the
3D Drone footage. Yes, "they're heeeeere". See Below.
New month, new logo. Designed by NYSA Curator, E. James
Smith. In case you were wondering, the design criteria for our logo is it has to
look good on the back of a motorcycle jacket! And by the way, the
NYSA is growing and I hope to see you at our meeting in the
fall.
So get a half-life and head out to GI this weekend to
learn about the future.
Until next time,
John J. Zelenka

3D Drones with
Dave Comeau
The
NYSA Lecture Series on Governors Island
Sunday, August 24th
@ 2:00 pm, Dave's been experimenting with these great new video tools
and he'll share his knowledge and expertise with you. We'll also have a guest
lecturer, Peter Kalaitzidis from Pilotage in NYC who'll add
his knowledge of flying and some hardware to
demonstrate. How about a live 3D View of the Holocenter? Strap on the goggles
and down the Dramamine! Dave will be piloting his Drone in 3D with FPV. Wonder what that means? See you on
Sunday!

NYSA SUMMER LECTURE
SERIES UPDATE
The
NYSA continued its lecture series at the Holocenter on Governors Island in July
with two stellar talks; one about how stereo 3D evolved from the 19th to 21st
century and the next about the storied history of the View-Master.

3D
FROM THE 19TH CENTURY THRU THE 21 CENTURY
D. Carlton
Bright brought an impressive collection of stereo devices and 3D photos that
were projected on a screen and viewable in 3D with provided glasses. Carlton
explained how stereo photography has existed as long as photography itself. He
demonstrated several different ways to see 3D with viewers that were based on
the first created in the early 1800s and others he invented himself. Carlton's
exhibits demonstrated that stereography is a very basic concept of photography
and not the result of special effects trickery. Carlton also has an ongoing 3D
video projection installation showing in the Holocenter through
September.

MASTER
OF THE VIEW-MASTER
The next lecture was
hosted by Sheldon Aronowitz, renown stereographer and keeper of the View-Master
torch. Sheldon, who has been featured on TV news because of
his vast collection and archive of all things View-Master, has also produced
countless View-Master reels himself. He toted only a small fraction of his
collection to Governors Island and gave a riveting talk on the odd way this
classic 3D gadget was invented, soon after becoming a global phenomenon. And he
even handed out free stuff!
